Tivo Adds Chicago Tribune Critic

In its latest effort to demonstrate its superiority over digital video recorders provided by cable and satellite companies, TiVo plans to deliver reviews of television shows to its users. It already exclusively provides YouTube video clips and other online video fare. The DVR pioneer said today (Wednesday) that it has reached an agreement with the Tribune company to provide the reviews of Maureen Ryan, the TV critic for the Chicago Tribune, to about 100,000 TiVo users living in the Chicago area. As part of the deal the Tribune will run adds for the TiVo service in its television section and will receive a share of revenue from new subscriptions generated by the ads. TiVo CEO Thomas Rogers told today's New York Times that his company is also in talks with other print media outlets to provide a similar service in other cities.
